The Fab Five are here. Overwhelm, Anxiety, Perfectionism, Comparison, and Inner Critic. I get it because I’ve been there too! And it’s so human. Lucky for you, I know how to help!

When it comes to the inner critic, there are three things to highlight:

1. The inner critic is another version of your inner child. For example, think of a part of you that negatively affects you, such as shame. If this version of your inner child were at a party, picture them sitting in the corner. The shift here is that they get to play and be welcomed too. Instead of resistance, show your inner critic (child) so much love. Let yourself know that your entire Self is welcome.

2. The inner critic exists because it is trying to keep you safe. At some point, there was a moment when it wasn’t safe to be your true self. And that’s okay! The inner critic doesn’t mean self-harm, it’s simply trying to protect you. By following the first tip, you’ll see this helps with having compassion for this pattern!

3. This leads me to part three! Self-compassion can have so many different definitions. How would you define it? To me, the biggest first step is focusing on the above, which brings you to self-compassion naturally. Self-compassion is having an awareness of all parts and welcoming it all with love.
